New voters can now find help in 7 different languages!

Voting is one of the most important things we do as citizens in a democracy. As California’s chief elections officer, Secretary of State Debra Bowen encourages every eligible citizen to register to vote and participate in elections. To help meet the needs of new citizens and others who prefer to vote in Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog or Vietnamese, the Secretary has introduced a set of “New Voters” web pages in all these languages, plus English. There, you will find a voter registration form, advice on what to bring with you when you go to vote, instructions on how to vote by mail, and other useful voter information.

To learn more about voting and elections, visit the “New Voters” page at www.sos.ca.gov/elections/new-voter/, or call the Secretary of State’s Voter Hotline:

What’s Your Story? Videos from expats and exiles in Phnom Penh

Studio Revolt, a collaborative media lab, in Phnom Penh recently released two videos “My Asian Americana” and “Why I Write” on the deportation of Khmer exiled Americans. Both videos use the medium of film to humanize the experiences of exiled Americans, re-framing the issue as a human rights violation. Consistent to Studio Revolt’s style, each video pushes unconventional narratives into a public sphere while still exhibiting the studio’s high quality production value on a shoestring budget. Strategically changing the discourse from deportees to “exiles” is in fact part of the studio’s appeal to a larger public to reconsider this debate.
