The Student Leadership Academy (SLA) is a full-time, paid summer internship program for young leaders who want to get in-depth experience as organizers in the Los Angeles labor movement.
The academy is a project of the UCLA Labor Center .
What does it mean to participate as an intern in SLA?
Working full-time for a labor union in Los Angeles for 8 weeks during the summer 2012
Participation in a mandatory two-day training on June 18 and 19, where you’ll learn the history of the Los Angeles labor movement and the basics of labor organizing
Mentorship opportunities with your supervisor and colleagues at your host organization
You’ll earn a stipend of $4800 total for participation in the 8-weeks, June 18 to August 10, internship program.

One of our biggest internship sites this year has a lot of Asian American and Pacific Islander members (home care workers) and we’d love to recruit various Asian & Pacific Islander language speakers for our program. Chinese and Vietnamese language speakers are especially needed, but all languages are needed.

We are a small non-profit theater located near Culver City focusing on developing new interdisciplinary theater artists and expanding awareness of issues facing under served communities.

We would like to open our Internship and Assistant Stage Manager Opportunities to the Asian American Studies Students of UCLA.

Our internships will provide a first hand learning experience in the fields of marketing production within the South East Asian community for our Los Angeles Premiere run of Refugee Nation at the LATC.

TEADA PRODUCTIONS a non-profit 501 ©(3) Theater Company seeking summer interns in production and marketing.
The mission of TeAda Productions is to expand the awareness of issues affecting underserved communities through the development and presentation of performances by people of color. TeAda’s cross-disciplinary performances incorporate theater, performance art, and dance. TeAda embraces a fearless commitment to provide artists a space to explore cultural and political issues most relevant to their communities.
We are looking for high energy, dependable and eager interns for an Assistant Stage Manager Role as well as a Social Media Marketing/Outreach position who are passionate about theater.

Here are the position descriptions:
Assistant Stage Manager (unpaid internship) – Refugee Nation
TeAda is looking for a multi-tasker and team player for the role of Assistant Stage Manager for Refugee Nation.
The Assistant Stage Manager will be responsible for taking down blocking notes, technical cues and other important notes during rehearsals.
This person will act as the liason between crew cast and theater management. Duties also include recording video and audio as needed.
The Intern should have interest/and or experience in running crew or stage management. The intern must also be comfortable working with artists as well as theater managers whether it be in person, via e-mail or over the phone.
The intern will preferably understand a Mac system and the basic Microsoft applications (Word, Excel).
There will be occasional weekend and evening hours. He/She must have access to a car and a valid CA driver’s license.
Intern must be able to attend rehearsals every day Monday-Friday, 10:30am-4:30pm between May 15-31, 2012.
Longer hours may be required during tech/production week (May 28 – June 3rd).

Undergraduate Internship Position – Summer 2012
Marketing/Outreach Intern Position Description
The Marketing/Outreach Intern’s primary project will be building and maintaining TeAda’s new media presence,
such as the setting up and maintenance of accounts on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and Constant Contact,
with responsibilities that include uploading videos and photos onto social networking sites, list management for Constant Contact, and keeping TeAda in communication with its various communities on the web.
As traditional forms of media and communication with audiences continue to evolve, TeAda is looking for a
motivated team player who has the ability to stay on trend and translate the trends to company use.

Skills Required
This intern should have interest and/or experience in guerrilla marketing tactics and community organizing.
This intern MUST be comfortable meeting people and communicating in person, on the phone, and via email,
video editing, proficient computer and internet skills, and have a strong writing ability. An ideal intern would be a self-starter interested in the organizational and business end of the arts. The interns should also show an interest in working with communities of color. The intern will preferably understand a Mac system and the basic Microsoft applications (Word, Excel), Filemaker Pro, Photoshop, Final Cut (or another Mac-based video editing software), and HTML. There will be occasional weekend and evening hours. He/She must have access to a car and a valid CA driver’s license.

Here’s your chance to gain experience at the nation’s premier and award-winning Asian American woman’s magazine! At Audrey, we cover stories that encompasses news, lifestyle, beauty, fashion, and entertainment. We are currently looking for INTERNS and CONTRIBUTORS who would be interested in working for EDITORIAL and/or ONLINE sections.

AUDREY INTERNS
Audrey Interns are given significant responsibility in areas such as research, writing, marketing, public relations, event management, and will provide general office support. Time commitment of 15-20 hours per week preferred. College credit can be offered. After completion of internship, Audrey Interns will also be considered to join on as an Audrey Contributor.

AUDREY CONTRIBUTORS
Audrey is also looking for applicants who are interested in contributing pieces to the magazine and website. We’re looking for individuals who have a strong interest in the Asian/Asian American community and have interesting ideas/stories to share. Audrey Contributors are strongly recommended to have prior journalism/writing experience before being considered.

In general, ideal candidates are detail-oriented, able to multitask, have strong communication and writing skills and should have an interest in the Asian/Asian American community. Tech-savvy people with experience with WordPress, Photoshop, Google Analytics, social media, video production/post-production, and other software and online tools a huge plus.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Parent Engagement Internship (Spanish and Cantonese Fluency)

PARENT ENGAGEMENT INTERN (CANTONESE)

Founded in 1983, the Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC) a member of Asian
American Center for Advancing Justice, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for
civil rights, providing legal services and education, and building coalitions to positively
influence and impact Asian Pacific Americans and to create a more equitable and harmonious
society.

Description of Parent Leadership Program

The Parent Leadership Program (PLP) guides and empowers immigrant parents to be advocates
for their children’s personal and academic success as well as to become leaders in their school
community. The PLP develops intergenerational/ intergroup relations, and equips parents with
leadership skills to create sustainable systemic change in their communities. This internship
offers the opportunity to support PLP programs in Lincoln Heights and in the San Gabriel Valley.

Current workshops are focused on health and wellness.

APALC seeks an intern with working Cantonese language proficiency for 10-12 hours per
week. Small stipends are available depending on language capacity and hours worked. Parking is
provided, and mileage will be reimbursed.

Position Summary: Interns will
· Assist in coordination and programmatic support of PLP classes and events;
· Provide support in the development of the PLP health/wellness curriculum;
· Assist in the development of PLP Workshop materials in-language (written Chinese,
Vietnamese, Spanish);
· Assist with facilitating meetings for Parent Interns;
· Assist with outreach to PLP Alumni and keeping database updated;
· Assist with advocacy video project and evaluation tools;
· Engage in relationship building with other community organizations in Lincoln Heights
and San Gabriel Valley;

Qualifications: Applicants should
· Have part-time availability (10-12 hours per week), including some weekday evenings
(Roughly 6 hours per week);
· Have fluency in Spanish;
· Have experience coordinating projects in a timely manner;
· Have experience working with parents from immigrant, Limited English Proficient (LEP),
and/or low income populations;
· Have experience with curriculum development;
· Have knowledge around health and wellness/environmental justice issues and/or
education;
· Have experience with community organizing, preferably;
· Have reliable transportation

CAUSE Internship: final call for applications on APRIL 27th

The Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment (CAUSE) Leadership Academy, an eight-week intensive paid summer internship that prepares students for careers in the fields of public office, public service and/or community advocacy. The program takes place June 15 to August 10, 2012.

To be considered for this internship, candidates should be graduating high school seniors or undergraduate college students in good academic standing, with a minimum GPA of 3.2. CAUSE interns will be placed in full-time positions in the Southern California area, so they should be prepared to live within the vicinity of their placement and/or the CAUSE office, where the weekly issues forum takes place, or be willing to commute independently.

The program consists of four components:

Internship Experience – CAUSE Leadership Academy Interns will have the opportunity to work for a legislator, public agency or city government. Through the internship, students will gain a unique knowledge and perspective of government and public service. Students will interact closely with staff as they represent the legislator at public events, conduct policy research and write policy briefings. The internship experience develops a stronger understanding of how government operates by experiencing it from an insider’s point of view.

2012 Annual Legislative Leadership Conference – The Annual Legislative Leadership Conference is held at the state capitol in Sacramento. In its 21st year, CAUSE holds close relationships with legislators, staff members and lobbyists that provide the conference participants with lessons from their legislative experience.

Weekly Issues Forum – Once every week, the interns will gather to hear an invited guest speaker, develop leadership skills or learn about current policy issues. The speakers will consist of community leaders, elected officials, legislative staff, political consultants and others. CAUSE interns will discuss relevant topics with guests. Meetings will take place at the CAUSE office in Pasadena, CA.

Group Research Project – Leadership Academy interns collaborate on a comprehensive group project that will be presented to the CAUSE Board of Directors, community members, media and other distinguished guests. The project topic will be decided upon by the interns. The program coordinator and advisor will serve as guides to help the CAUSE interns in achieving the project. Presentations will occur at the CAUSE graduation ceremony at the conclusion of the program.

Internship with Center For Asian Americans United for Self-Empowerment

CAUSE 2012 Internship Applications  
Since its inception in 1991, the CAUSE Leadership Academy (formerly called CASIC, California Asian American Student Internship Coalition) has prepared elite student leaders to be in the forefront of California’s legislative arena. This program is especially dedicated to developing the leadership skills of college students who are interested in exploring a career in public office, public service or community advocacy.
Previous students have been selected from Ivy League schools, the University of California system, community colleges and local high schools. Graduates of the program have gone on to run for elected office, work as legislative staff or work in the nonprofit sector. Students with an interest in Asian Pacific American (APA) affairs, leadership development, community service or politics are encouraged to apply.
The eight-week leadership academy will develop:
  • Political awareness and civic engagement
  • Understanding of the legislative process
  • Insight on issues related to the APA community
  • Professional and leadership qualities
  • Public speaking and presentation skills
  • Interview and social etiquette
  • Organizational and cooperative working skills
As part of this intensive eight-week leadership academy, CAUSE interns will:
  • Receive internship placement in the offices of elected officials.
  • This opportunity affords interns a unique hands-on experience in the legislative process, policy knowledge and constituent outreach.
  • Gain access to and insight from civic leaders through leadership workshops and seminars.
  • Interns receive leadership training from elected officials and community leaders; meet and learn from assemblymembers and state senators in Sacramento, and get a firsthand, inside perspective of how the government functions.

CAPAL Internship and Scholarship Early Decision Application Deadline: Feb.1

The Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL) is currently accepting Internship and Scholarship applications for 2012.

Scholarship Overview:

CAPAL scholarships allow outstanding APA students to spend the summer interning for a federal government agency, a Capitol Hill legislative office, or a non-profit organization, and gain firsthand knowledge of the workings of American government. Each CAPAL scholar will be awarded $2,000 in scholarships to support their successful completion of an internship of their choice in the Washington D.C. metro area. Each CAPAL scholar will be responsible for obtaining their own placement.

Internship Overview:

In partnership with federal government agencies, CAPAL will award internships with stipends at federal offices to outstanding Asian Pacific American (APA) students committed to public service. Past agency placements have included the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Forest Service, Agricultural Research Service, Rural Development, and Food Safety and Inspection Service.

CAPAL is a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational organization dedicated to building leadership and public policy knowledge within the Asian Pacific American community. Its mission is to promote APA interests and success in public service careers, to provide information and education on policy issues affecting the APA community, and to serve the APA community at large.

PAID INTERNSHIP: Multiracial Studies Education

Multiracial Americans of Southern California (MASC; www.mascsite.org) is seeking college student intern to assist with the project “Multiracial Studies Course” to be conducted at a high school in Los Angeles in Spring 2012 (February to July 2012).

We are looking for someone with an interest in race studies, education, multiculturalism, or other related subjects.

Intern must be available from December 2011 to attend meetings and related to course planning with Curriculum Designer and Course Coordinators. This is a paid internship.

Duties:

  • Tasks related to course administration including: classroom setup, taking attendance, getting supplies and organizing class activities
  • Communication with school administration, guest speakers, and MASC leadership
  • Assistance with evaluation of course effectiveness, summary of course highlights for use in funder reports
  • Intern must be available on-site for each class (twice a week on weekday afternoons)

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Interest and passion for multiracial issues and history
  • Organized, dependable, accountable
  • Some teaching experience – (teaching certification not required)
  • Familiarity with high schools or other educational institutions
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field preferred.
