What compelled you to seek a leadership role in Asian Pacific Coalition?
I decided to seek a leadership role in Asian Pacific Coalition because of internship and the strong bond I shared with the interns and coordinators. I became an intern fall quarter and realized that I couldn’t handle everything along with academia, so I took a break winter quarter. I loved what I learned and did in internship. I learned so much about myself and the problems in the API community.
APC internship made me become aware and conscious of everything going on around me, but my grades suffered fall quarter so I took a break winter quarter to reflect on what was important to me. With the break, I realized that I was missing out on what I loved and that was going out into the community and addressing the community problems that affects me and those around me. I wanted nothing more than to be a part of a movement that would somewhat help change how things are now, so I became an APC intern spring quarter and I absolutely loved every moment of it. From spring internship, I learned to be the scholarly activist that I am slowly becoming every day and that is thanks to the interns, the staff, and the community. So, yeah, these are all the reasons why I was motivated to be a part of APC staff for next year and I am super excited to make changes for the future; even if it means little changes because everything begins with little steps.
